Richard I 'the Lionheart' (1189-1199), 'Short Cross' Penny, c. 1190-1194, Class IIIab2, London, Willelm, crowned bust facing, curls 3/3, rev. + WILLELM · ON · LVN · voided short cross, cross pommées in angles, 1.39g [21.45grns], 10h (SCBI [Mass] 811-812; North 967; S.1347), some peripheral porosity and resulting striking softness, otherwise richly cabinet toned with much underlying lustre, an exemplary portrait for this 'Absent' King, a most pleasingly bold very fine, a true connoisseur's cabinet piece for this 'Coeur de Lion'!.
